Construction News THE PARK / WOODALL RODGERS FREEWAY Woodall Rodgers Freeway is currently open and we do not anticipate any additional full closures until sometime in early 2010. NAVIGATING THE PARK / WOODALL RODGERS FREEWAY STREET CLOSURES - ALTERNATE DIRECTIONS TO THE DALLAS ARTS DISTRICT Beginning Monday, October 19, the Harwood Street overpass will be closed. Visitors accessing the Dallas Museum of Art, Crow Collection of Asian Art or Nasher Sculpture Center from the Tollway/Harry Hines Boulevard into downtown should approach using either Pearl Street (for the Dallas Arts District in general) or St. Paul Street (for the Dallas Museum of Art). The Dallas Museum of Art's parking garage is accessible from St. Paul Street. Harwood Street going south between Woodall Rodgers and Ross Avenue will be accessible from the Woodall Rodgers frontage road and will still be available for bus parking. Beginning Wednesday, October 21, the St. Paul exit from westbound Woodall Rodgers Freeway will be closed. The exit will be closed for approximately 6 months. Visitors accessing the Dallas Arts District from Central Expressway/75 South can take the Ross Avenue Exit. Turn right onto Ross Ave. and proceed to the district. Consult destination website for further directions. If you are coming from northbound 75/45, exit 1A Hall/Lemmon. Proceed to Hall and make a U-Turn over Central Expressway. Follow the Central Expressway frontage road staying to the right. You will then merge with the Woodall Rodgers frontage road. Proceed to Routh, Pearl, or St. Paul St. and turn left into the district. Consult your destination venue website for specific streets. (Meyerson Symphony Center, AT&T Performing Arts Center, Dallas Museum of Art, Crow Collection of Asian Art, Nasher Sculpture Center or favorite restaurant for address). If you are coming from southbound or northbound I-35 your exit will remain the same. Coming to the district: If you are coming from northbound 75/45, exit 1A, Hall/Lemmon. Proceed to Hall and make a U-Turn over Central Expressway. Follow the Central Expressway frontage road staying to the right. You will then merge with the Woodall Rodgers frontage road. Proceed to Routh, Pearl, or St. Paul St. and turn left into the district. Consult your destination venue website for specific streets. Leaving the district: If you are going northbound on 75 use the Woodall frontage road to the entrance just beyond Routh St. If you are going northbound on the Dallas North Tollway use Pearl to exit the district. If you are going eastbound on I-30 enter Woodall Rodgers to I-30 east of Pearl. If you are going northbound on I-35 travel north on Pearl across Woodall Rodgers. Take a left on the Woodall Rodgers frontage road and proceed beyond Field to entry. Please log onto the TxDOT website for further traffic updates at DFWTraffic.dot.state.tx.us. In addition, TxDOT will be posting all construction traffic information on the Mobility section of The Park’s new website TheParkDallas.org. Please note that all closures and alternative directions provided are subject to change. We will continue to provide updates as we receive them. ROUTH STREET CONSTRUCTION - The newly paved west side of Routh Street from Flora Street to Woodall Rodgers Freeway is now open (with one lane open for each direction of traffic). The east side of Routh Street is closed except for all access points for One Arts Plaza. We now anticipate the total reconstruction of Routh Street from Flora to Woodall Rodgers Freeway to be completed before the Christmas holiday. Routh Street from Flora Street to Ross Avenue will not be completed until the completion of City Performance Hall in 2011. BOOKER T. WASHINGTON HIGH SCHOOL FOR THE PERFORMING AND VISUAL ARTS - The school will be receiving a new school zone on Routh Street, sometime this fall. Remember, no cell phone usage in school zones! DEVELOPMENTS CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT&T PERFORMING ARTS CENTER ANNETTE STRAUSS ARTIST SQUARE - Foster + Partners’ design for the new Annette Strauss Artist Square includes a permanent stage pavilion, adjacent to the Winspear Opera House. In this serene, open-air setting, thousands may enjoy a variety of outdoor events ranging from concerts to theatrical and dance performances to multi-day festivals. Opening 2010. AT&T PERFORMING ARTS CENTER CITY PERFORMANCE HALL - City Performance Hall is a multi-disciplinary center that will bring a broad range of cultural performances and events to the Dallas Arts District by a growing group of small and midsize cultural organizations that represent all artistic disciplines and the diverse heritages of our community. Construction has begun on the parking garage of City Performance Hall, which now looks like a giant hole in the ground adjacent to the Wyly Theatre.. Opening 2011. THE PARK – Construction is already underway on one of Dallas’ most unique parks – a deck plaza covering Woodall Rodgers Freeway – that will join the Arts District with the Uptown area of Dallas. Designed by the Office of James Burnett, the 5.2 acre, $80 million deck park will provide a vital pedestrian and bicycle connection between the neighborhoods, enhanced by a children’s playground, a dog park, a restaurant, and a performance pavilion.
